Te Puwaha is a work directly sourced by the audio/visual recording & footage taken at Te Puwaha, the mouth of the Whanganui River. This is our Awa speaking directly and we have interpreted the korero via a visual arts lens. The ‘look’ of this work has taken into consideration the wave formations driving the incoming tide and the currents of the river. This is the first iteration of Te Puwaha with developments continuing.
The media footage was taken on 1st of April, 2022 by Cameron Tawaroa (Ngā Paerangi, Ngāti Hinearo/Tuera, Ngāti Pikiao).
Te Puwaha is also the name given to the Whanganui Port Revitalisation Project. We acknowledge the project manager Hayden Turoa and the hapu collective Te Mata Puau for their continued engagement on behalf of our Whanganui Iwi & our Iwi appointed Pou Tupua, Turama Hawira & Keria Ponga.
